Default CONFUSED W/THIS POPPING> driveshift-U-JOINT?

could it be a U-JOINT POPPING,i had a trany mount bad,replaced it,still have this popping,it only pops when it shift out at a pretty hi rpm, it's 98 z28 auto a4

Any aftermarket components such as ?? Is the popping towards the front/middle/rear of the car.

1)Torque Arm

2) LCA'S

3) Exhaust/Headers

Default it's all stock, and it's feels mid or back, under seat back?

its pops like metal,deep thumping,only at take off hi rpm,w/ and a twisting noise,kindly like a pipe rubbing,but it not a muff pipe 1,do you know where the stock driveshifts & u joints GO BAD FIRST? 1,AND WHAT BEST/LIGHTS/CHEAPEST AFTERMARKET D/S

Sounds like the ever so common y pipe hitting the floorboard.

It COULD be, any of the rear suspension componets having loose hardware, such as tq arm. Also, check the condition of the trans mount.

make sure the clamshell where the torque arm bolts into on the transmission didnt come lose. It happened to mine once. The torque arm kept banging on the top of the transmission and i couldnt figure it out. Sure enough when i got under there.........tada!

How do you check the clamshell without lifting the car clear up in the air? Mine is doing something similar.

I had to use a floor jack to jack up one side of the car just so i could take a peak under there. BUt then i put it up on a friend's lift to put a new bolt in the clamshell. If you have a friend that works at a "quick lube" place, (Mobil 1, etc.) you could just drive over the pit and check it out real quick.
