I'm cammed and thinking about 4.10s...
So I have been debating for awhile now to get 4.10s or keep the stock 3.42s in my SS. I ran one of friends who has a bolt on z28 with 4.10s. We mainly did some quick highway runs, from about 60-100. He pulled just a bit right on the jump but then he ran out of gear and I pulled him. But I have around 40rwhp more than him, so I was pretty impressed, but I know it's because he was higher in the rpm range and in his powerband.
I am wondering if 4.10s would be ideal for a cammed car, since cams generally give more power higher in the rpms. I mainly "race" on open streets, nothing crazy and will occasionally go to the track.
So should I stay with my stock gears, or go with the 4.10s? Are the 4.10s really break and break easily? Thanks!

4:10s w/ a cam here and it really wakes the car up. About to go w/ a 9" and 4:10s so I can start launching. A lot of people's advice w/ experience says save for a better rear and get the gears you want....then again others say they can spend money to replace 10-10bolts for the price of a 9" or 12bolt.
Bottom line, Im glad I put in 4:10s. A couple hundred bucks wasn't a big deal, especially since I was nowhere near ready to purchase a new rear 2 years ago. Good luck!

just do it! I promise you will be glad you did. I have had a cam in my M6 for 30,000 miles now and finally put in 4.10s a couple months ago. I cant believe I didnt install them as my first mod. You will notice a BIG difference.
Oh and I averaged 20.2 MPG with my cam and 4.10s (1/2 highway, 1/2 city)

**That and i have a feeling my BFGoodrich DR will make my rear really go if i insall 4.10s. Even though i wont launch the car i have a feeling the 4.10s wont like the DR during 1st gear rolls.
