posi units different from 98-02?

posi units different from 98-02? Picked up a rear out of a 02 camaro and pulled the cover it looks like it has a different posi unit in it from my 98. It has worm gears on the bottom and top, my 98 rear has springs in there. Is it a aftermarket posi in there or did they just change the setup between the years? Which is better?
