new axel help
i just bought a 00 T/A. i have big plans for this car, but every one says the poor old 10 bolt will not hold up. so my first major mod will most likely be a rear end change. eventually i would like to do heads, cam, clutch, you know the drill. for now though i need some help as to what to look for in a rear end. the car will always be driven on the street and will probably see some track time as well. so an axel that is somewhat versitile is needed. unfortunatly i know little about axels except that the 9' is king. what kind of $$$ can i look to be spending on a complete setup. is there a way to mod the stock axel to maybe save a little money. idealy i would like almost a direct swap out kit, if they make such a thing, but money doesnt grow on trees. what do you guys think???

9" is 30lbs heavier then the 12bolt.. for a street car I would say to use a strange 12bolt. call edwin@847-663-1701.. they can give any info you want. if you had a 9 second car you may want to go with a 9" or s60. I have had good luck with my 12bolt. I did not use strange's gear and still has held up well. any case they all will go in there it just depends how much power you really think you will have at the end of the day.

Be prepared to spend about $2000 to $2500 depending on what kind of setup you are wanting. You could go with a 12 bolt but they have been noticably noisy in the FBody cars. 9" is what I would do or run the 10 bolt in the ground till you have to spend the money.

Depending on what you want to do... mini-spool, spool, posi-unit, you can get it done for less than $2000. You just have to be patient, browse the classifieds, and pick your parts. But you best have the paypal ready, because good deals on 9" rears last about 2 minutes in the classified sections!
