Default new to this and gots the questions....

hey yall...im a newbie to messing with cars in depth. I have a 2000 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3 I was taking my heads off to replace the gaskets and have them shaved and a friend of mine told me to replace the heads with LS 806 heads. What is the difference? what heads do I have now and how could I look and tell what heads I have?

Did some internet digging and have found out that "806" is just referring to the cast number (im assuming the cast that they used to pour the mold for the heads??) im finding out that some match up and bolt up to different vehicles but may have different bore sizes wondering what the bore sizes matter and how they affect the running of the vehicle.....told yall im EXTREMELY new to this

most seem to use 241 or 799 castings on build ups. if its just a normal driver just reuse whats on there. wont really any power gains stock anyhow.

I know its not a ls anything but I was wondering because I never knew there were different types I always thought a 5.3L 8 cylinder was just a 5.3L 8 cylinder I never knew there were different styles or what the difference was or how to identify my engine specs

on truck 5.3 dont think got much changing til bout 2007 when fuel system changed up. 04 -05 somewhere they put fuel pessure regulator in pum assembly and went to single line fuel rail. think some sensors changed around abit too. i have a extra 00 5.3 and 06 5.3 dont see alot different other than older had egr valve off right exhaust manifold, intake little different. throttle body is cable on 02 & older. 03 newer dbw throttle. wiring & pcm different. i have a 06 5.3 motor in my skylark with dbw throttle, 4l65e tranny . i put a silverado pump assembly in tank after modified tank to take it.

The 5.3 in your truck should be an LM7, and it will have either 862 or 706 heads on it. I wouldnt bother swapping to 806 heads either, maybe 243/799s if you were planning to do other mods (cam, headers, etc) other than that I would just roll with the heads that came off your 5.3.
