Default dyno tune vs frost tune

Ok need some opinions here, I have a 98 camaro z28 with 85mm throttle body, MagnaFlow cat back exhaust, slp lid. And soon to be adding some long tube headers. Which is the better option sending the pcm in to frost or a dyno tune.

frost has a very good reputation but the in person dyno tuner can actually be scanning your car and watching wideband readings and adjusting to optimize real time , of course theres some crappy dyno tune stories out there also so I guess it all depends on the reputation of the dyno tuner your looking at ??

Well that step 1 I haven't been looking at any really just for the fact that I am new to the high tech world of LS based tuning as I just purchased my first camaro less than a month ago

as long as a tuner is competent (though ive seen a few hacks) a dyno tune is the way to go.

With your limited mods a mail order is fine, of course if you can swing it a dyno will be better like said above w/ the right tuner.

I don't really recommend it, not with them few lil bolt ons. I'd get race headers, you'll have to delete AIR pump & Egr as the race headers dont have the flanges for this stuff. Doing this gives ya more room, easier to get at the plugs & wires. Also get an LS6 intake, that & LTs will wake that motor up! I just had my car tuned by Dr Phil at Jakes Automotive in Sterling heights & I highly recommend him. Reasonable too!

FWIW my 98 SS was tuned via Frost mail-order. It runs very well and was very happy with the turnout. Like mentioned already, I wouldn't spend the money on a dyno tune for just a few bolt-ons. Just my opinion of course.

if this car happens to be an automatic on a 1400 budget , get a quality stall convertor , its the best bang for the buck short of nitrous

Do a 32-3600 stall, LT/ORY, and LS6 intake. All that and a frost tune will keep you in your budget and make the car very fun. When I had similar mods I had a frost tune and it was fine.

Does that spring look right to anyone ? My rpms are all over the place, could this be caused by the hole drilled in the butterfly valve ?

I totally agree. Those mods would make that car a stock internal beast!

Not sure what the blue tubing is doing by that spring, don't have a clue why a stock motor would need a hole drilled in the throttle plate? Why put an 85mm TB on a stock intake? Makes no sense! A ported stock TB works just fine!
