New to the game I'm putting a 5.3 in my 97 2 door Tahoe mud toy. Have the motor tore down looking for general information on what to do as in what would be a good cam dose it need studs etc already rebuilding the motor. Doing a budget build got about 1,200 for parts what should I do. This truck is pulled on a trailer everywhere it goes 40 inch tires for now it may get 500 miles put on it a year.

I'd look for flat top 4.8l pistons to raise the compression. I wouldn't go too big with the cam, mid 220's in duration. The cam, springs, pushrods, and all the odds and ends to put the engine back together will eat up your $1200 budget.
