Default Questions for those who have High Mileage Cars

Who out there has a Trans Am or Camaro with over (or well over) 120,000 miles on the original LS1 engine and is pushing 400 or more Horses. Those who do, what, if any, problems have you experienced? I have a 2000 TA with 148000 miles and will be doing a Head and Cam swap. So I'm just trying to get an idea of any precautions. I will also be replacing the Lifters, Oil Pump, Timing Chain, and M6 Tranny. I've never had an engine problem since owning the car, knock on wood.

I have a cam & Headers with 165,000 miles. If maintained properly it should be okay. I believe these cars runs better with age. However, you are changing the right parts.

How are your T56's holding up with that mileage?

As to the high-mile LS1 motors the only one's I have seen that died were due to

1) Too much juice
2) 5-1 shift
3) Lubrication failure due to pre-ls6 pump or low oil level

My car has close to 170k and its runs okay. I have piston slap when its cold, my lifters are loud when its cold, but that seems to be the norm for the most part with these engines it seems. My remaining 02 sensors are failed yet it still runs 12s haha. My rearend is quiet, no oil consumption. The only thing that lets me know my car is high mileage is my oil pressure is down a bit. It idles at around 30 when its hot, but it seems to rise 10 psi every 1k rpms which I heard is safe. Anyways my plan is to install a nice 230 cam in it but when I do that I'm going to buy a rebuilt kit from summit and a new oil pump.
