96 and 97 SS value info
I just bought a 96 SS with a blown out tranny for $3500 which was a real steal considering i have a 97 z28 that i totaled out which i used as a donor car. my friend brandon is searching for a z28 or trans am and he has me looking up values almost daily well i noticed that the nada value on 1996 and 1997 SS camaros is higher than newer ones i was wondering what makes them more valuable.

Rare would be number one. Next would be that they had more SLP content. The first ones were really made by SLP one at a time.
So to retain that value, use replacement parts that are the same as the SLP's.

Yeah I looked at a 97 ws6 and the guy was asking $8600. I thought that was fair if it had really low miles but I looked up the book value and it said something like $15,500 for one in excellent low mileage condition! That's almost more than my 02 ws6! But I figured it was b/c they're so rare. The ls1 ws6 and ss are not hard to find AT ALL. I've only seen one ws6 and one ss lt1 around here.

+1 on the rare factor. I saw 2 different 96 SS's when I was looking for an LS1, and both were over 10k. A particularly clean white SS was almost in my driveway, but I held out for an LS1. Very cool cars, and someday I would like to own one and a 96-97 WS6.
