Lightbulb How much does it cost to mod.

You have a 2002 Ls1 with an A4 and put down 290rwhp, which is a 12% powertrain loss. Your built tranny and rear is ready for any thing you throw at it.

1 engine ($2500)est. + $500 for tune
________
cat-back exhaust($450+$150)
Lid ($100+$100)
25% UD pulley ($250 + $200)
Ported TB ($120 + $200)
1.85RRs ($600 + $250)

325rwhp est.

$85.71/hp

2 engine ($3000)est. + $500 for tune
________
cat-back exhaust
Lid
25% UD pulley
Ported TB
cam ($400 + $1000)

345rwhp est.

$63.63/hp

3 engine ($7800)est. +500 for tune
________
true dual set up($600)
headers ($600 + $450)
LID
25% UD pulley
90mm Intake/90mm TB ($1000 + $250)
Heads ($2500 + $350)
cam

418rwhp est.

$64.84/hp

4 engine ($8000)est. + $500 for tune
________
cat-back exhaust
Ported TB
EPP D1sc Procharger kit ($6000 + $1200)

460rwhp est.

$56.66/HP

5 engine ($10800)est. + $500 for tune
________
cat-baxk exhaust
LID
ZL402 ($8500 + $1500)

500+rwhp

$53.81/hp

6 engine ($18000)est. + $500 for tune
________
cat-baxk exhaust
LID
ZL402 Low CR ($8500 + $1500)
D1sc Procharger ($6000 + $1200)

700+rwhp

$43.90/hp

So in conclusion from this, the more you spend the lower the dollar price per horsepower. Do you all think this estimation is right on target?

not to mention, if you do it as you mod.. usually you end up upgrading already bought items.. which in turn is wasted money in the hp/$ ratio.. itll kill it fast.

Not to mention alot of people put in supporting mkods that add no hp at all.

Doesnt look like you took into consideration tires/wheels.. suspension mods etc.

Didnt include any of the new twin turbo systems they have blowing around.
Though the built tranny/rearend was mentioned.. but what's that run installed? 6k? parts and labor. hurts hehe

The first two builds wouldnt need the suspension rear/tranny mods.. though when you start hitting the 400+ range then you need them.

This is not quite accurate. A stock '02 LS1 engine makes 350hp (F-body or Vette). A stock '02 A4 car would very likely make around ~290rwhp as you state. That's a loss of 17%, which is more accurate for the A4 trans. 12% would be a better calculation for the M6 trans.

start with gears and a stall(if your tranny doesnt already have it)

Then get heads/Cam/boltons Run you anywhere from 2500-4000 depending if u buy used or new parts and where you buy them.

Search is your friend!

Your car runs pretty stout for a stock A4.

How much ultimately depends on which route you wanna take. What you expect from your car, and many other things.

Try searching the dynometer section, and using the search.

H/C/boltons run you anywhere from 3000-4000 for everything and ultimately if you are going to perform the labor yourself.

Good luck. This is a very expensive/addicting hobby.
