Default Purchasing questions regarding an 01-02 F-body

Hey all,

Just registered to your site, alot of info here! I had planned to find myself an '02 NBM Firehawk T-Tops, M6, but not very common and when they are for sale, well into 20K's. So then I was entertaining an 01-02 Firebird as long as it was stick and found your site and kinda like the Camaro's as well. I had an '87 IROC for 4 years a little while back and love the feel of the seating and poise on the roads.

I drove an hour today to a dealer and took a ride in an 02, NBM Z28 35th, M6, T-Tops, all stock. 30k miles and they were askin $17,400. on www.Firehawk.org they have .pdf brochures avail on what extra is involved on Firehawks. What is all included on SS's? It seems looking through the forums I could find what I am looking for in an SS for the same price range. I wonder if it'd be a worthy investigation? The bit of info I did find seems like a heck of a lot more SS's were produced in 02 compared to Firehawks?

Looking forward to owning another F-Body, so trying to do some research ahead of time here!

Thanks for your time!

Rich

Welcome to the premier LSX based site on the web!

Yes, the SS is much more common than the Firehawk, in any model year of the 4th gens (other than '93-'95, since there was no SS but Firehawk was avaliable).

A base SS comes standard with the following upgrades from a Z28:

- 17X9" wheels with 275/40/17 tires
- Power steering cooler (avaliable on Z28, but standard on SS)
- 32mm (1LE) front sway bar with 1LE bushings
- SS specfic hood, spoiler, and badges
- Slightly better flowing muffler with 2.5" tail pipes (vs 2.25" on the Z28) and high polished tips

Now, keep in mind that SLP offered many additional options through the factory beyond those listed above for the SS. Anything from a different catback exhaust, Auburn rear diff, and suspension upgrades (shocks/springs), to stuff like grille, floor mat, dash plaque; and even synthetic fluid packages. In the later years they offered a 345hp package that gave you the SLP catback exhaust and a higher flowing air box lid.

Hope that helps in your search.
