What year did GM vans start getting the LS1 style engine? How about the trucks? I really want to know about the vans though. Thanks.

if by ls1 style you mean the 4.8, 5.3, and the 6.0, then the trucks got them in 99 and i don't know about the vans. all my fleet vans have the 4.3 in them

2002 was the last year for the old style 5.7L in the full sized work vans (Chevy Express and GMC). Not sure which engine they got in 2003, but '02 was definitely the last year of the old 350ci.

Technically I mean the Gen. III V8 which the LS1 also is. My buddy has a passenger van, has a 350 according to him. I'm not sure what year he said. I'm not trying to prove him right or wrong, I'm just curious how old of a van I can buy and still get the genIII v8.

I don't think GM ever put the 4.8 in the vans. I've only seen them with 5.3 (1/2 ton vans) and 6.0 (3/4 and 1 ton vans).

And the 4.3's and diesels, of course.

I have a 2005 2500 Express van with a 4.8. They do come with 4.8 and they have no torque and suck royally. I hate that motor.

The Duramax vans come with the LLY mtor IIRC and are tuned down to use with the 4l80e due to the allison being too big to fit in them

just some useless info

Really? Wow... Never seen one, but I guess GM made them, after all. I'll stand corrected.

the trucks received GEN III motors (that's what you meant to say) in '99, except if they were suburbans, Tahoes, Yukons, Escalades or HD trucks... then they got em in '00.

the vans were in '03 i beleive, but really i don't care too much about vans.

Make sure it's actually a 6.0, as they came with 5.3s and 4.8s as well. If it is a 6.0, it'll be an LQ4, 300 HP. Dished pistons, 317 casting heads. About 9.5 to 1 compression if I remember correctly. Good starting point for a turbo setup, but if you're planning on putting a lot of boost to it, better get forged rods and pistons.

elaborate....these engines dont use intake gaskets, they have individiual o-rings on each intake port.
