Default Can you use a gauge cluster from a 2002 in a 1998??

Hey all- our 1998 Formula's gauge cluster is probably got a short in it from what I can see. The odometer is extremely extremely dim, and sometimes when you turn the key off the ses light will stay lit and flicker on and off. Also the fuel gauge is inop and oil pressure is at 80+ reading. Also the ABS light comes on when the key is removed from vehicle. I have read here that the 98s have a problem with shorting out. I found a nice cluster from a 02 TA that was wondering if it will fit. I called a friend at the dealer and he said it has DIFFERENT part number for 1998s. My 2002 looks identical save for the white face as her 98. Anyone used a 98 in a later model or vice-versa?? Please let me know.

no, you cannot use a 99-02 cluster in a 98 car, or you will let the smoke out.
