Default Bad Wheel/Axle Bearing?

On my 2000 Formula A4 with about 105,000 miles, whenever I accelerate or am cruising, I am getting what sounds a lot like tire noise coming from the rear end (I think), but it isn't the tires because all 4 are new. It happens from about 20mph on up. It "pulsates" like rrrrrrRRRRRRrrrrrrRRRRRRrrrrRRRRR.

Does this sound like a bearing about to go either in the axle, wheel, or differential?

Could be a wheel bearing or pinion bearing depending on where the sound is coming from. If you can get the car off of the ground, put it in neutral and rotate your rear tire and listen for the sound.

OK. It only does it when accelerating once it gets up to about 20 or so. Then it sounds just like tire noise. I hope it isn't the pinion bearing. $$$ and time!
