Default Doing clutch. Should I Replace Rear Main Seal?

Just wondering if I should replace the rear main engine seal while I have access to it. My car has 70k miles on it. The seal looked great and dry when I first pulled the flywheel off but now after two days of sitting I notices a tiny bit of oil around the bottom of the seal concerning me. Is it hard to replace these?

Yes if you have it all apart you might as well change the rear main seal.

It's not that hard.

Is it easier to take the cover off and replace the seal?

Not sure what you are asking ?

I just drained the motor oil, pryed the oil seal and drove another one on there.

there is a cover just like the front timing cover on the rear of the engine that the seal is housed in.

Oh I see what you mean now.

I didn't even think about removing the housing.
I just used a seal puller and screwdrivers to remove the seal.

Then I used a seal driver and a very large socket to install the seal.

I thought replacing the rear main seal was easier than replacing the seal
on the front timing cover. I found it to be a pain to get that one off.
I did the front while installing my cam.

GM has redesigned the rear seal, it's different from the original unless
you get a Felpro it will be the same. I ended up with the GM seal...
so far so good after almost a year.

It was very easy to change by removing the cover. I did not need any special tools.
