I'm getting some significant engine chatter that I can hear when the hood is shut. It sounded like maybe one of the pulleys was going out, but I took the serpentine belt off and fired the car up for a couple seconds and still heard the sound so its not any of the pulleys, so it must be internal noise. What could cause a chattering noise like this? Thanks

to further rule out internal problems check your exhaust, heatshields or spots it hitting if you have longtubes.
