Default Chirping Idler Pulley, Help?!

I found the source of the chirp; its the secondary belt (smaller drivebelt) idler pulley. The problem: It had a starbit bolt, so bought the bit to fit into it, but it was too shallow and every time I tried to loosen the bolt, the pressure would make the bit go crooked and strip the bolt a little bit. So I kept trying and now the bolt is almost completely stripped. The size of bit I used was a T47.

Why is this bolt a different design from the main belt's Idler Pulley? What do I do now????

I had a hard time getting that bolt out, too. Had to heat the boss it's screwed into to remove it.

Once the bolt is stripped, you're in deep trouble. You probably have to remove everything so you can drill it out on the bench. I don't remember, but I think the A/C idler pulley is screwed into the A/C compressor bracket. Tough job since the bolt is harder than the aluminum.

"heat the boss" ? - Could u explain that one? And I'm pretty sure its stripped. I'm too afraid to keep trying it though unless I have a solid plan. Do you think a shop could get it out and not be too costly?

The good news: I just bought another pack of cigs, so I'm starting to calm back down from earlier. LoL

I meant heat the aluminum part that the bolt is screwed into.

In your case, I think it may be too late if the torx head is stripped.

It can be fixed. If you don't want to do it, get an estimate. Good thing is the car is still running with the stripped bolt.

Well, I took it to a shop. He charged $140. He said he had to remove the radiator and all that other stuff to break it loose with a chisel. I believe him and think he charged a very reasonable price, am I right?

$140 for digging out stripped hardware is ok.
