Default 98 TA, M6, idle issue.

the car: 98 LS1 Trans Am, m6, just hit 98k, mods: lid, B&M ripper, RAM clutch installed by last owner.

the Issue: occurs when car has been running (freeway) for a while, and I slow down to city driving/stop-and-go traffic. after a about a mile or so of rush-hour conditions (constant slow speed, lots of engage/disengaging the clutch), the Temp gauge gets to about the middle (210*) mark, then the car starts to idle at 1300-1500rpms, and wont come back down. I'll get to my destination, turn the car off, let it cool, and back to normal when I restart it. It did this a lot in the summer, and I replaced coolant/t-stat back in August, but it still does it when car gets hot.

Everything else seems normal, not sure what exactly. The plugs/wires are original, so I know its about time for those to go.

Thoughts/Diagnosis?

awesome, thats a good start. I'm off tomorrow, so it's the "take care of the vehicles" day.

Any other thoughts?

Also take a look at your throttle blade, clean it out with some carb cleaner. Could be some gunk in there keeping the blade open a little bit.

--Would that have an effect only at high temps? Or would a slightly stuck throttle blade keep the idle RPMs high at all times? I'll take a look at that, too. Thanks.

keep the ideas coming!
