Why does my ashtray lid stay open !!! 02 maro

Is there supposed to be a spring mechanism somewhere that is missing ? Anyone have any details on a fix it's really annoying !

Yeah there's a spring. Mine stays open too because where the spring connects into the lid hinge is broken.

Take the top of the center console off and then look at the spring. Its probably just bound up.
