Default Fixing the Air conditioning

Ive got a 98 Z28, and was told the ac compressor gave out. So far Ive bought a compressor with 16k miles on it that should work flawlessly, and a new orifice tube. Ive been searching and it looks like I should also get a new accumulator? Any suggestions on where to buy one or will any autoparts store suffice?

Now bare with me on this next part, as I'll probably be asking some stupid questions. The system is pressurized correct? Meaning before removing anything I should have someone discharge and flush the ac system? Next install newish compressor, orifice tube, and accumulator? Then just recharge the system?

I found this down the page. Can anyone tell me what he means in step 6. I'm guessing putting a vacuum on the system?

pull a vacuum on the system to remove all of the air from the system.

Search for the nearest Performance Radiator. The dryer you will need a new one, PT# 1411309 for $59.00 & the orifice tube (black) PT# 3411249 is $5.95.

Let the manager know that Brian Knight sent you (Branch manager in the Albuquerque NM location) & see if they can give you a better deal. And they will carry flush too.

If you are too far, they can ship it UPS for free. But we have quite a few locations in FL.

I hope that helps.

Look at step #4, as it's actually the most important part. If your compressor failed, as in fell apart internally, then the system MUST be thoroughly flushed before you try to put it back online due to metal contamination from the dead compressor. If it has to be replaced because the shaft seal or case seals are leaking, then you can get away without the flush, but it's still recommended.

Don't forget oil!
