catalytic converter

not for the average DIYer. You need to take down the y pipe off the manifolds, cut the old converters out, then weld in new ones. After you remove the y pipe and cut the converters out, you must re-install the parts of the y pipe tight on the manifolds, then test fir the converters and tack them into place. Then take the y pipe assembly down again, and complete the welds, then reinstall with new gaskets and bolts. Also you must determine why converter went bad. engine ran to hot, contaminated with coolant, ect.

I believe LT1's came with one unless it was a california car which may have 2 cats. Best thing to do is get under the car or try to stick your head under to try to get a view. They'll be located somewhere in the y-pipe. You cant miss them.
