Default lights dimming

hello, i have a stock 2001 SS M6. for the past 18 months i have been watching noticing a voltage issue. what happens is that when im shifting my voltage will drop down real low and my headlights will dim down and then pop back up. it doesnt happen every single time i shift but usually every night i drive the car it happens. it always happens when the car is at low rpms and never when im in gear. its hard to notice it in the day because my headlights arnt on. i have a optima battery thats one year old. could this be the alternator going bad?

Yeah, could be. I had something similar on mine but never fully tracked it down. But after an engine swap and a new alternator (long story) it never did it to me again.

Get the alternator tested at Advance Auto. I got a reman from them (Paladin on the label) and it has worked flawlessly since I got it 2 years ago... still does, except the car is wrecked and no longer on the road
