Default easier to change oil pan gasket with tranny removed?

Hi everyone i have my transmission removed at this time to fix a rear leak and i think my oil pan gasket it also leaking. My question is, would it be easier to go ahead and replace that gasket now or is it the same difficulty with the tranny bolted up?

IMHO, I would buy a set of ARP or Katech connecting rod bolts and swap them out while you are doing the pan gasket. K-member has to be dropped either way, might as well strengthen up your bottom end just a little. I did mine last weekend and everything is back together great. There's a write up in the Gen III Internal section stickies on how to do it.

If the trans is out of the car its easier to do the pan.

Note to "OP"...the K-member does NOT have to be dropped, especially if the tranny is already out. You MAY have to rotate the engine, to get the #1 and #2 rods/crank up out of the way, to provide more room to slip the pan back.

The only tricky part would be in getting an engine hoist under the car to support the engine after you raise it to allow the pan to slip between the engine and K-menber, AND still leaving room for YOU to get in there and do the removal...
