Default 01 Trans am LOW OIL light, but oil level and pressure is good.

The low oil light on my trans am randomly comes on and off. I have checked the oil level and it is fine, the Oil pressure is good too.

what kind of issue am I looking at here and is my car safe to drive? I plan to take it on a long trip soon

If pressure and level good id trust it. My oil light has been on for months now i took a 1200 mile trip to florida in it and have put about 10k more miles on it since then and havent had a problem. But all cars are different tho. I dont have an answer about problems it could be sorry. Im wondering myself.

If the low oil level light is on, but the oil level is fine, either the sending unit is bad, or you have a special case of bad wiring or bad pcm.

Start by replacing the sending unit.

It's on the passenger side of the oil pan, surrounded by a large white hex looking thing.

Late to post on this but Id just check to sending unit or level sensor or whatever they use to trip that light I forget the component the PCM uses as in input to turn the light on. Its probably got oil pushed through the sensor. Unplug it and it it does, clean the harness side of the connector and replace the sensor. My ECT on my goat was doing that (coolant pushing through sensor) and setting the overheat alarm off. I just sprayed it out w/ contact cleaner and put dielectric grease in the conn. and haven't had a prob. in months.

The sensor on the oil pan is broken. Which isn't uncommon at all.

I have 95 T/A with the LT1, I ran into the same problem today, the oil pressure suddenly went down and the car stalled a couple of times... When I got home I checked out a couple of videos about that issue and everything pointed to the the oil sending unit.
I'm gonna be working on that tomorrow and hopefully that fixes the problem.
