Default What is this sensor and where does it go?

I found this little guy tucked UNDER my air filter. It's connected and everything, but I don't think it belongs there. What is this guy and where does it clip on?

That sensor is suppose to be plugged into your air lid. Is there an aftermarket lid on the car? Some lids do not have the necessary hole in the lid to allow that sensor to be plugged in.

Yep, thats the Intake Air Temp sensor (IAT)

Sould be a hole in the lid, so Im guessing it is aftermarket.

Well, I see the stock air baffles on the car, so it doesn't have an aftermarket lid. I can even see the damn hole it goes in on the first picture. Come on guys, take a closer look at the pictures. I circled it for ya buddy, pull it out from underneath the baffles and shove it in this hole.

Yea, lube it up real good, maybe stick your finger in there to stretch out the hole a bit, and shove it right in the hole.

Not like we didnt know where it went. Guy didnt notice it in person; cant blame me for not seeing it in shitty pics... I didnt look for it anyway, assuming he would have already noticed it.

This is a weird one: The rubber grommet was in place and everything, but there was a little metal stopper in the grommet, plugging it up, while the IAT sensor was left laying under the air cleaner. I just popped the stopper out and put the IAT in right. I can't imagine ANY reason that a PO would do this because it's stupid and probably doesn't work very well.

Thanks for all your replies, everybody!

WOuld it be enough to affect anything?

OP: Was the hole in the baffle plugged or was it just sucking in unfiltered hot air?

Probably did it to try and trick the computer to spray more fuel. All it does is kill your gas mileage and make your car run rich.
