using a cherry picker to hoist the front of the car up by the rad support. a homemade wooden cart under the engine/trans/k member. once the car is high enough... support the car momentarly with some raised jack stands to be able to get the cherry picker out of the way... slide the cart out and the re hook up the cherry picker and lower the car back down to normal height on a set of lowered jack stands. good luck

You will need BIG jacks to lift the front end high enough to clear the motor... You dont want the motor going straight to the ground, because you wont be able to move it...so you have to account for a dolly or something for the motor to sit on too.
You really want to use an engine hoist. Im assuming by "lift" you mean like a 2 post shop lift. An engine hoist is a great tool to have, and you can find them pretty cheap if you shop around.
Here's a couple pictures from the various engine pulls/installs Ive done. All outside in my driveway. No garage or fancy set ups. I even did it in the dark once...
Above all..BE CAREFUL... And use common sense. It goes a long way.
