Default new alternator charging battery

i just replaced a bad alternator in my car and the battery was pretty much dead i let the battery charge for an hour or so to make sure everything is going to work. the car starts and i drove it around for a few mins maybe about 2 miles. now i know that the alternator will not charge a completely dead battery. so i have it on charge again to bring the battery up but my question is how long would it need to charge to be ready to drive? im thinking 2 to 3 hours but i feel a slight struggle when starting the car this is why i ask.

Batteries need to read 12.60 volts or above to be considered fully charged.
