Default Daytime running lights-possible deletion task

I've read before on here about how to disable the DRL, IIRC basically you pull the radio and relocate/detach wires on the cigarrett pack-sized electrical unit mounted rear of the radio.

I've not done this but i've decided I wish mine were disabled as well -
Which got me to thinking... has anyone considered perhaps there is a direct replacement bulb that only has the one filiment that works when the blinkers are activated? Without the second filiment the DRL uses?
That would be such an easy fix and would stop the slow distruction of the bulb sockets.

I don't know what Cigarette-sized thing you're talking about but there's a black box that I soldered two connections together to disable the DRL on my 02 Firebird. They would only come on with the parking/headlights. Then I clipped the running light wire at the bulb so now they don't come on even when the headlights are on. Now it only flashes on with the turn signal. I only did all that because the heat from the bulb was making the lens turn white.
