Default 2001 Z28 Rattle

I bought a 2001 Z28 automatic with 103,000 miles on it. When the car starts and is in Park it idles perfectly. Once shifted in Drive and you have your foot on the brake it starts to make a serious rattling noise. There are no issues when put in Reverse or Neutra and shifts with no problems when driving. Could this be a tranny problem? Thanks for any help.

Sounds like a broken mount. I'd start by checking your motor mounts and transmission mount.

Default Another Issue

Thanks for your responses. The car is my son's, he just told me that the rattle also occurs when driving and he presses down on the gas. I drove it today and noticed that when I took my foot off the gas and shifted to neutral the rattled stopped, when put back into drive it started again. Could that still be a mount problem...thanks again.

Jack it up on all four corners, have someone sit in the car, put it in drive, foot on the brake and start hunting. Thats about all you can do. A long screwdriver against your ear can help sometimes.

I am on board with the torque are loose or damaged. Look closly at the rubber mount at the rear of the transmission where the torque arm slides into. Rubber could be gone.

If it is the torque arm mount, do a Poly replacement.
