Red face Water pump moves

ok today my serpentine belt snapped and when putting the new one on i noticed the waterpump was able to be moved up and down when i grabed it is that normal on this car it is a 2000 pontiac firebird 3.8 ?

If there's a play in your water pump pulley, it means that the shaft and bearing chamber is getting worn. Once the clearance reaches the threshold, it will leak coolant. Knowing this, you may or may not want to replace the pump while you're ahead.

You mean the pulley moved or the entire housing moved?

like i was able to grab the water pump and move it up and down and everything that was hooked up to it moved with it

So the bolts holding the water pump to the engine are loose? If just the pulley has any play in it, then replace it as stated above
