Default 2000 SS Turn Signal Rebuild

Question fellas,

Have any of you ever rebuilt the turn signal assembly on the steering column?

The plastic housing that fits on the steering column, where the turn signal arm protrudes, has cracked and in need of replacement. Also, the mechanism that makes the clicking noise and keeps the turn signal engaged has also failed (have to hold the turn signal lever to the left or right when turning).

Basically, I need to know what I would need to rebuild the turn signal assembly that fits inside the steering column.

Thanks!

Here you go: https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...mn-repair.html

Your turn signal return issue is pictured in step 20. While you are in there, make sure you also replace the large white turn signal cam (its common to break it taking the horn wire out your first time, anyway) and also lube up (with WHITE lithium grease) all the contact points in the turn signal switch pulled out in step 21. If you do that, your turn signal assembly will last another 100K miles before you should need to mess with it again.

The great thing about this is that the steering column (minus the airbag) is largely unchanged since the 60's and the parts are all over the place and inexpensive. The worst part is the airbag. So, if you are willing to make the investment in a few special column tools and can find someone to show you how to safely remove the airbag - all you need is a little time. (It may take you a while the first time.)

This thread also has some other good pictures and tips: https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...oval-pics.html

I recall that the plastic cover behind the turn signal lever just snaps off/on.
