Default Weird noise from back end after shift

I was test driving my brothers 02' Trans AM because when shifting into 2nd from 1st the rear of the car shifts to the right. I got the car to do it the first time, and the second time I tried to do it the car made a clunk noise. It sounded like the exhaust was hanging on the ground making a clunking/grinding noise. I don't know if I didnt shift clearly into 2nd or what. It makes the noise more while driving at a higher rpm rather than a low rpm. We couldn't see anything visibly under the car that looked messed up or out of place. The noise seems to be coming from the back right tire area. Could this possibly be related to the problem with the back end shifting to the side while going into 2nd gear? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.
