so i've had a noise for at least a couple thousand miles (through spraying etc)


it's loud and a "clapping" kind of knock from up top and seems centered to the intake. i can't figure it out... i'm about to pull motor to have freshened if i can't figure out...


1: new lifters (noise was there prior and post replacing them)
2: no bent pushrods
3: cut 2 filters apart and checked for elements and only found a small amount of metal and less the second filter.
4: hot idle oil pressure is no different than it ever has been and oil pressure seems fine
5:noise gets quieter as car warms up


any ideas? my guesses are cam bearing, bearings or bent valve? i don't really know...

How loud? Could it just be piston slap?

It's loud. I doubt it. But like I said it goes away. It's very solid sounding when not yet to operating temps
