Question Not sure if I'm in right area? Need help/info on trans temp gauge install

I have everything mounted and wired. I put the sender for the gauge in a fuel adapter fitting, kinda like a "T". Problem is gauge won't climb scale. You can see needle move when ignition is switched on and off.
I know it's something really easy but has me stumped. If anyone is willing you can call or text, I can send you pictures or talk to you about how it's done.
Thanks for your time in advance. Sorry if I'm not in the right area for posting this. Was not sure exactly where?

I can try and get some up after work. Thanks for your response. I think I need to put a ground to where the sender is? But will definitely get some posted
