Default sound deadening placement on doors

Do you guys put them on the inside where the regulator and motor is or on the outside where the clear plastic goes? I've seen it done both ways wondering if it makes much of a difference, inside the door seems like a pain

the inside of the outside door skin and if budget permits then in place of the clear plastic. if you want to get technical you might even use 2 different types of deadener, one on the door skin and a different on the inner panel.
