Default Vats the problem ? No pun intended

Recently I have noticed a security light come on whenever I first start the car but goes away after driving 5 minutes . Today I try to start the car and nothing . I thought maybe the battery died but it tested fine . It's not my fuel pump because I can hear it prime . I have a feeling it's the vats . The car came with one key so I don't have a spare to test it . Is there anything I should try before I start ripping stuff apart ?

Yes I have done a search and others have a similar problem . I don't want to bypass the vats system yet .

Sounds like the car is not seeing the correct resistance from the key an thus not starting?

Ohm test the key, buy resistor and put it in the vats system. If car starts then you can narrow it down to something between the ign cylinder and vats system.
