Question valve cover gaskets replacement????

i took my valve covers off to paint them...
dad comes in and says you should replace your gaskets if you remove the valve covers...i agree to a point, but car has 18k miles on it...stuff isnt even dirty....are the gaskets ok to use still..or should I pick up a set at chevy...
THANKS
erik

I would reuse them unless you damage them some how (hard to do). Worst case, you stretch them out a little and they're hard to get back in.
