Default Metal Shavings

I did an oil change this morning. After pouring all the oil into a container, at the bottom of the oil pan, there was alot of specks of gold shavings and a few tiny chunks. My friend cleaned them off they they looked Silver instead of gold. What could thses shavings be? I'm hearing bearings or Piston Rings from everyone so far.
If it is the bearings, is it possible to put new ones in under the engine? My friend is able to get under the car(really small) and he says the only problem he would have is to loosen the crank. So how would he be able to lossen the crank?

Default

you would have to pull the motor to do so, and i would do a compression test just to see whether or not the piston rings are bad
