check engine light, fan sensor?

check engine light, fan sensor? I was told by the prevouis owner, that my check engine light was on because of a bad fan sensor? I am new to these cars, and dont know where the fan sensor is, or how much they cost. can I check codes with out taking it to a shop? thanks

Other places will read codes too, or if you're really out in the sticks you can buy a simple OBDII code reader online at harborfreight if you can't find anyone with scanning ability. You didn't mention any overheating/or it flashing on and off so it's probably nothing major...need to find out what the code is soon though. GM dealer is always an option too, but they'll charge you a "diagnostic fee."
