Default big backfire

ok so i was cruising down the road and all of a sudden i lost all power, i mashed it to the floor and the rpm's slowly dropped i let off the gas and i backfired bad and just shut off. i rolled over to the side of the road and stopped. i tried to start it and it fired up fine and ran like there were no problems the rest of the day. this has happened twice now does anyone have any clues?

I would say you need to do some logging, and hope you can recreate the problem.

Do you loose power after ging over a bump? I know this may sound strange, but in my 3rd Gen I lost power on a bumpy road. So popped the hood, engine running, and tapped every sensor I could get to. Tapping the MAF sensor the car almost cut out. I tookmthe maf off, and there was a broken wire, it was touching most of the time, but a bump caused it to not.

It may be worth a go, its free to try, other than that get someone to log your sensors when you are driving.
