Default Serpentine Belt

How hard is it to replace the serpentine belt on an LT1 Formula? I come from an older-car background...you know, with v-belts. I can see that it looks pretty tight up front, but am curious how much knuckle-blood and time I should expect to lose if I tackle this? I noticed today that my belt is glazed and cracked, so I want to replace it ASAP.

Thanks in advance.

Dave

Easy - think all you need is a 13MM? socket. http://shbox.com/ci/ci414.jpg

Get a 15mm socket and a breaker bar, push down take old belt off, put new belt on and it will auto adjust itself as needed. I did mine two days ago in 5 min.

Are the belts I can find at NAPA of acceptable quality, or should I just go to the GM parts counter?

Ill make one eiaser for you just go into your trunk and get your lug wrench for your wheels. Same size. Just in case your on the side of the road and need to change your belt they have given you the tool to do it.

I just looked at Rockauto and Summit for the Gatorbacks, and couldn't find one for the LT1 cars. Summit only has them for 6 cylinder Birds...?

That's for an lt1 Camaro but it should be the same belt. Maybe a local store will carry that part number.

Thanks for that. When I searched their site for my Bird, they didn't list a V8 application for that line of belts.

Yeah, Summit's on line store doesn't always put all the F-body stuff in the Firebird section. I usually just search for parts for Camaros first, then check Firebird.

Just some advice, check the tensioner after your belt is on. give the belt a good tug...if the tensioner moves easily back and forth you are fine. if not you will want to consider changing the tensioner soon.

Thanks for that advice, I will do that. Haven't ordered the belt yet...gray and rainy here and I have no garage to work in, so I'll wait until it clears up.
