Default Suggestions for buying new Jack!

I just broke my jack trying to jack up the front end. I need one with a long handle that I don't have to lay on the ground under car to jack it up. Anybody buy certain brands that were bad or good? I need something I can use at any angle under the car and to be long enough to reach too. Anyone ever buy a duralast aluminum jack? They have a 1 year warranty on them.
Any thoughts?

I don't know what mine is called, but I got it from Harbor Frieght and it was very cheap. It is very low to the ground (in case you ever get a vette). It has a 4ft long handle, and one pump puts the car like 2 feet in the air...I love it.

That sounds good. I was wondering if they have a warranty. I have heard alot of people say there jacks didn't last weeks. Money just wasted. I have one of there stores here in Memphis.

I remember there being a warranty on mine, just not sure how long. Ive used it ALOT lately and havent had a problem until recently (6~ months after purchase) . For a 40$ jack it isnt bad.

if you go to advance auto parts, they have a good heavy duty jack for like 50 bucks. its very good. I bought mine from the advance auto part off of Germantown rd. I bought one of those small flimsy ones for like 25 bucks and it would barely jack up the car, and when i finally got it lifted it fell back down, so i said **** it. Im not riskin my neck. the one from advance is very good. never had a problem with it.

I was wanting to get one that has the nice rubber pad on it so it doesn't mess up the finish on the underbody. What brand did you all buy at advance? Is it aluminum? I have a hard time jacking the car by myself.

no rubber pad, but its the only one at advance like that. it lifts about 2.5 tons, very sturdy and no problems.

What I need is something low and long with a long handle and a rubber pad on it. Also looking for one that is not too heavy for me.

Does anyone know where you can buy low profile jack stands?

Harbor freight has aluminum ones for the lowest price, that sit low, are light, and have long handles.

But, if you are careless in any way, they aren't the best solution. Harbor frieght quality is somewhat sketchy, and aluminum jacks don't hold up very well if you tend to jack on anything other than a very flat surface.

So if you are always working on a nice flat garage floor and are never careless then they are ok.

Otherwise go steel and deal with the wieght, or get a higher quality aluminum one from Sears. I've also seen some decent ones at Costco and they'll take em back forever.

the one from advance auto is called prolift. it is heavy, but it is worth it. I went and got a cheap one like Harber freights and it wasnt worth. Besides u could buy a rubber pad and put it on.

I'll say from experience to avoid Sears at all costs. They are not high quality. They have a 30 day warranty. They do not repair them. They do not sell parts for them. If you spend $150+ on there nice aluminum jack and it doesn't last you a year of light use you're SOL. If you decide you need a jack now and spend $75 on their steel SUV short handle heavy as hell jack and it doesn't last two lifts you can get your money back because it only took two weeks to try it twice.

I did a lot of shopping around and asked a lot of questions after that and settled on a NAPA jack. It is called their "Furious Jack" because it's so low. Rubber pad gets down to 3". It's a steel frame that will last so it's heavy but the wheels are steel so you can roll it. If I ever have a problem they service them, you just take it to the counter and pick it up soon repaired. It cost me $75 on sale. Long handle and so far with me, my brother, and my son all using it the jack has worked well for over a year.

I still have the Sears aluminum jack just in case they ever start selling the pump units that they list in the parts dept.

Anything under $500 seems to be made in China.
