When they go bad, change them. Otherwise leave it alone.

I would agree with the above post. Sometimes they are not that easy to get out and you might wind up with a real project on your hands if the threads are all rusted and gauled up. Turns a routine maintenance project into a nightmare.

How would you know when they go bad other than the computer throwing a code?
