So I changed my fuel filter....

Better for it to be in there than for it to be in your engine. Are you using the cheapest gas you can find? Most places that have dirt cheap gas are cheap because... well it has dirt. Places like ARCO, among others, don't filter their fuel as much as other places. You end up pumping a fair amount of crap into your tank at places like that.

I believe the filter is original, the previous owner had original tires on it at 101k so I don't doubt this was too. I don't use the cheapest gas, usually I get shell V power its the only brand around here that I know. But yeah, it looks better than it was in the picture, it was all covered in black goo. For the 30 seconds it took to swap a new one in the car runs 100% better, doesn't idle rough or sputter at low throttle like it did.

My civic had 175000 miles on it when I changed it. Brown gas came out. Didnt cut it open but I imagine it was nasty. That looks bad though. Run some good fuel system cleaner or FP60 for a bit as theres prob more junk in the tank than swap it again next oil change.
