Default Overheating problem and power questions etc...

My car seems a big doggy lately. Today I looked at temp gauge and it seemed up. I checked scanner and it showed 238! I threw on the heater and that brought it down to get it home as was pretty close to home.
I have 160 stat and though have fans set to come on pretty low. I will double check my hptuner settings maybe they are wrong or messed up. If that is not the cause will change out stat have spare 160 stat. Will check belt, etc.
But have a question .Will temps in the 230 to 240 range cause the car to go into limp mode or something and pull timing or whatever .Could that be the reason my car is so doggy? I didn't see any check engine lights though. Shoulded warning lights or codes show up at 240 or when do they show up?
