Pacesetters and flowtech are the tightest fitting in my opinion.
I run slp longtubes just bc I like the sparks.

All of them are bout the same. Except slp they aren't very good for ground clearance. Im happy with my pacesetter they have good ground cleanance. The y-pipe are more of ground cleanance issuse to me. Here is a pic of the headers and then the y-pipe also. Both fit very good and no scraping or banging at all.

my question is...why do you want headers? i don't think you really *need them until you cam it. same gains to be had with n2o using manifolds or headers. a solid stock manifold car will run equal to or within 1 mph of a header car.

i'd just wait until you cam it. otherwise you are opening yourself up to many problems.

Thanks for the pictures man.

I am planning on putting a cam in it. But i dont have a lot of money so I have to do things one at a time. I would rather buy headers now instead of buy headers and a cam in the future. Get my drift.

yeah, i hear ya. my buddy had a 2" drop on his 99 z28 and pacesetter long tubes. the headers cleared everything fine, but the y-pipe drug everywhere he went. i'm guessing that will be your biggest problem.

Wrong.

All of it.

Headers are a good start. More air in, more air out, thats the plan. Especially if your spraying.

X4 when i put my headers, ORY, and ls6 intake i gained 3 tenths at the 8th mile. The better you get the air in and out the engine the more power you are going to make. Headers are a very good mod!

I have the SLP originals and They might as well have welded skid plates onto them
The new design is a well planned out part. Check them out!!! Ceramic coated stainless inside and out!!! They come as a complete system too. Only downside is they dont use the newest collector designs.

Here is my recent install of ARH with my Intrax 2" lowering springs.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-external-engine/993528-american-racing-headers-intrax-2-lowering-springs-lots-pix.html

To date, I haven't scraped anywhere, including places I used to scrape with the stock Y.

you mean i am misexperienced? because the information is coming from drag strips and experience from a few years worth of racing.

what kind of mileage did/do your untuned header cars get? what do they weigh and trap? headers aren't worth the effort IMHO.

you'll be over $500 with headers and a tune to trap what a manifold car would with an ory. you'll have less clearance than manifolds for everything engine/exhaust related and not have an excuse when a damn near stock ls1fbod is door to door with ya.

i think headers are great, but they have their time and place. a bolt-on car with no other mods is not the place.

edit: fyi - you will pick up the same on a 100 shot, headers or not.

Where can you find an oval Y for the pacesetters? I looked for this before but no luck. Can't find an oval "kit" to make my own either.
