Default stripped TB screw what do you suggest

i bought a used ported throttle body recently and just installed it yesterday. the idle hole was drilled out a bit for a larger cam so i swapped my stock blade in. i tightened the second screw and stripped it. still stays kinda tight but i dont wanna suck it through the engine.

what would you do?

the shaft is cut in half so the stock screws stick out the back a ways. i have some small nuts that fit the screws. just wouldnt want them vibrating loose either.

could also loctite the screws in but will the heat/oil wear it away?

orrrr just buy a screw tap?

I would tap bigger threads. If thats not a option get a lock nut that will fit and put some red locktite on it.

^^^ +1 on tapping bigger threads. If theres room in the material. Then that removes all doubt

Did the threads in the shaft strip or did the threads on the screw strip?

first you may want it a bit loose to keep the TB blade from sticking, don't tighten it down too heavily. I used loctite on mine with no issues. I'd also just tap for a larger screw, not a big deal.

swap the TB shaft from your stock one if possible.

He only changed the blade...

If the shaft is cut in half you don't want nuts on that edge anyway. Might as well swap in a stock shaft. I you do use a shaft like that the bolts should be cut to length. and use loctite

hahah thanks for the help. chances are it wouldn't have fallen out anyway but i didn't wanna risk it. used some loctite and now it's really in there.

i had to use the stock scews even with the ported shaft because the tb only came with one and the head of it(allen key) stripped when i tried to remove to swap blades but of course the head of it stripped and i had to cut a slot and wedge a flathead into it to remove it.

has nothing to do with the topic but the adjustable bump stop screw was stuck too so i ended up having to drill that out and when i rethreaded it that bolt stripped too so i had to drill it out a second time and then i just used a small nut and a bolt.

just about every nut and bolt on it stripped at some point or another hahah.

Just an FYI for future use, Loctite will not work if the bolt won't hold TQ. Loctite isn't "glue".

I would just retap the hole for a slightly larger screw and call it a day. Make sure to put loctite on both screws.

feuture refrences if something like that ever happens again buy yourself a heilicoil kit and repair the threads to the origional size this way you dont have 2 different size bolts in one part it makes it easier to take things apart because then you dont need 2 different wrenches to unbolt one part
