Default Ls6 heads Gain with my mods.About to tackle install

Mods in my sig. Car runs mid 12s at the moment and no idea about dyno numbers but i wanna know if the swap is worth it in my situation. I will do all the work myself.243heads are used like $450. Will stock gaskets change compr ratio? which should i use? Any tips? What are expected gains on a full bolt on car? cam will come in 6-8 months prob a tr224 or tr228.wanna add some performance to my car and ive hit the wall with my bolt ons.Help and Opinions appreciated.

If you're going to go through the trouble then I would at least put some ported 243's on there. There's plenty of budget 243's out there. This way you won't be going back in further down the road when your stock 243/cam-only setup is too mild. You will always want to go faster!

/\ but for a budget build 243's aren't bad at all. How much cash are you looking to spend? Also get a cam spec'd for your setup.

why a custom grind? do i need it.i thought untouched 243 s were used for a lot of the budget builds i see on here. 380-390rwhp would satisfy me for a while as im still on stock 10 bolt and will likely stay that way

Custom grind is the way to go for superior driveability and still make the power of the big cams. Well worth the little bit of extra dough IMO.
A custom 226/228 588 114 cam would drive awesome and should make the HP goal you have set for yourself along with the 243s, or at least very close.

If you want to bump the compression a little bit, go with a Cometic .040.

But since you are on a budget, the GM MLS gaskets would probably be best @ $29 from sdparts.com

Pretty much everything you need to know for installation is on www.ls1howto.com

Also, go ahead and spend the extra bucks on ARP head bolts...well worth it and easier to install.

how much scr are u shooting for?
what cam u plan on using?
my 243 head are only upgraded with REV valves, and some light runner cleanup i performed in bowl area. but my engine a is 375ci, 490rw,m6.
heads are non ported, besides vj and 2.02 valves
there is really no need to port the 243 799 heads imo, unless going for max effort n/a but even then there are better choices, than oe ported heads.
if your gonna spend 1500+ on heads, might as well get some darts or such.
if have 4.00+bore, upgraded l92's with matching cam and ls3 intake.

Yes you will pick up about half a point with the smaller chamber 243's and stock gaskets.

I would really just wait and do H/C at one time because it is much easier to set up the heads off the car.

I would also for sure get the valves lapped before they go on and a little bowl blending by someone competent goes a long way on these heads too.
