I could be wrong but; the way I look at it is this...your muffler is restrictive, a cut-out takes that restriction out of the equation thus leaving you with a "freer" flowing exhaust; and since an engine is just a big air pump, the faster you can move air in and out, the better your engines performance will be. I think that the E. cut-out was one of my best mod's. Even if I only got 5 or 6 Hp I got tones of grin factor everytime I open then up!! U can tune the sound to exactly what you want. I only open mine up about 1/4 while my son opens them up wide open:>) KIDS!!

DMH is the best one. I have had mine installed for over two years and I open and close it constantly.

For my car i have an 02 LS1 T/A, LID, Jet Hot LT's into a 3" ORY to the factory I pipe into a Magnaflow. I have a cutout just before the axle. I was tuning for a 100 Shot, so i did one run with it open and one closed. i actually lost about 10hp and 10tq through out the whole power band. the curves was identical but lower. this was a run from like 3k to 5800. BUT when its open below like 2500 i can FEEL a loose of low end torque with it open. I consider it just a noise maker. And with the LT's and ORY its is defiantly a noise maker.

I plan on getting cutouts when I get my car put together and tuned. Where is everyone putting their cutouts at? For the ORY, two cutouts where the cats would go?

Sorry for the hijack.

dude i would do LT's first. and maybe do a cam too. u've got a ****** 12 bolt, put that bitch to use. the cut out is more of a luxury IMO its basically just a botton you push to get a boner. then when u r done making a mess all over your steering wheel you press the botton to close it and drive like a normal person but srsly the way i see it is you have more mods that need to get done first.

I have a cutout in the i-pipe just before it goes over the axle and into the stock muffler. Sometimes I'll do a 1/4 mile run with it closed and then immediately do a run with it open; it consistently drops .12 from my ET.

What is the difference between the DHM and the QTP cut-outs?

I want LT but i keep hearing the LT are illegal in CA and wont pass the visual inpection for SMOG which is BS because an engine is like a huge vacum pump the better air goes in and out the more EFFICIENT the engine becomes and equals more performance but a better functioning engine... am i right?

I'd get rid of the shorties first. The cutout is worth 5-6hp but its really worth it if you want something cool to play with.

It was worth it in my case. I put LT's on and and ORY but stuffed it throught the stock 2.75-ish cat back. Its quiet as a mouse until I open the cut out. I went with the QTP just because they have the nice stainless cutout pipe. DMH has a nice 5yr warranty though
