I can't think of any reason this won't work just as well as any other well made catch can. It has all the needed components to let oil contaminated air in, allow it to condense and collect and a suction side well above any accumulated liquid level. See thru PET jar, when there's stuff in it, spin off, clean, spin back on. -8 fittings.

There isnt any reason the other air/water separator from lowes wont work either. Some people just want to pay more.
If my engine gets to the point where its necessary to have a catch can and I have to empty it as often as some people say, then my priorities arent right.
It is really a bandaid and the cause should be fixed, not the symptom.

My total cost on this was $32.00 including the AN fittings plus some stainless sheet metal that was laying around the shop.
As it's clear and can easily be removed and cleaned away from the car, it's much more user friendly.
Seriously, there's not much to a catch can that works.
As I'm building a new engine with the current version of the LS6 valley cover, I shouldn't need a catch can BUT I want one.

I don't doubt that but long term reliability of any vacuum pump on the market today comes into question on a DD car. I'm a driver and this won't be a weekend track car.
A vacuum pump would be a more viable option on the Monte as it'll only be driven to the track maybe once a year and car shows.

Being that my engine build completion is still a ways off and my DD '03 Blazer "consumes" a quart of oil like every 1,500 miles, I'm considering testing my catch can on it.
The stainless top bracket was made just to get it all together. I'll no doubt make a different one for the T/A once I decide where to mount it.

Here's an update about my brilliant peanut butter jar clear catch can:
I now own a truck with a high mileage 5.3. The intake and ports were badly fouled with oil, the PCV system was long shot. There was even a puddle of oil in front of the throttle blade.
After pulling the intake do do a few things (like cleaning) I swapped to the LS6 valley cover and PCV system.
I then installed my catch can.
Not surprisingly, the vacuum sucked it inwards.
I found a vintage glass jar and installed it.
Even with the LS6 PCV system, the jar accumulated almost an ounce of oil after just 200 miles of driving.
It'll stay installed on the truck.
